It’s giveaway time! When I started working on my 2015 Holiday Gift Guide, one of the first brands that I was in communication with is this brand. I had never heard of Canary before but upon research, I realized that this is an amazing company with an equally awesome product. When they asked me to do a review AND a giveaway of their Canary All-in-One Security System, I jumped at it because we had already fallen in love with our security system!
One of the things you will notice when you unpack your Canary, is that the packaging is top notch. And when you unload the box, you will be pleased to see there are not a lot of loose parts. (This means, it isn’t tricky to install which, as a busy mom, I greatly appreciate! 😉 )
The first thing you will want to do is download the Canary app on your phone. Once you do this, the app will literally walk you through every step of the install process. You start by plugging the Canary
into an electric outlet. Then, you connect your phone to the Canary (using the audio cord that comes with your system). And then, you connect the Canary to your wifi using the app. EASY.
If you want to know my only complaint is that I had a difficult time connecting to my wifi. I was starting to think that I was having network problems but upon doing some research, I learned that the Canary only connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks. I didn’t know what that meant until I realized that our wifi network is 5GHz. It wasn’t a difficult problem to sort out though. I had to go on my phone and connect to my slower wifi network and immediately the Canary connected to wifi. Problem solved.
Once the Canary was connected to the internet, the app on my phone walked me through setup for the Canary. And it showed me how to use the Canary. It is EASY to use. You literally just have to press “Watch Live” to view what is going on in your house that very minute. I found there was a very slight (maybe 10 or 15 seconds) delay. But my son (he’s 3) found it hilarious to say something and then watch the video footage on my phone repeat his words right back.
The picture below is of the Canary video footage on my phone. If you look closely, you can see me with my son on my lap sitting on a chair in the bottom left corner of my phone screen. The quality of the video is amazing which makes sense because Canary has a 1080p HD camera! The audio quality is also excellent. I was able to hear everything both in our room (it is a great room with a family room, kitchen and breakfast nook) and beyond our room.
With Canary, you can either take advantage of their Free Video Access Plan or upgrade to a 2-day, 7-day or 30-day plan. Some companies require you to purchase a paid plan so I love that you do not have to.
Besides being able to watch live videos of your home, this Canary system also has an alarm system. The Canary senses when you come and go, and automatically changes modes from armed to unarmed. If activity is detected in your home while you are away, Canary will alert you and you can manually sound the siren on your Canary (it is LOUD), contact the authorities, or ignore the notification.
The Canary is also inconspicuous. Can you tell where the Canary is? Not easily right? I love that it doesn’t stand out and also love its sleek design. It truly is an amazing system. One of my thoughts is I may get another system to use in my son’s room as a baby monitor. I like this SO much better than our existing baby monitor and I also love the added bonuses of safety!
