How many of you are making the most of Upromise? I must confess, I haven’t talked about them much. I also haven’t saved much with them, which is a travesty! Thankfully, Upromise is celebrating their 10th Anniversary and they are inspiring me to start securing my children’s futures.
Many of you know that my husband and I have not yet been blessed with children of our own. So while we wait on God’s plan and timing, we still dream about their future, their friends, the sports they’ll play, the hobbies they’ll have, the memories we’ll make, the college they’ll attend, and who they’ll marry. And just because they’re not here yet doesn’t mean we can’t start preparing and saving for when they’ll need us most, like paying for college! I was blessed to have parents who sacrificed and spent less on themselves so that I could have a debt-free education. Not everyone has that luxury. Well now’s the time for me to start passing it along to the future generation.
To show my commitment to saving for their future, I just posted my dream for them on Upromise’s Dream Wall. If you want to make a small but unique commitment to your kids as well, then I encourage you to go to the Dream Wall and post your own dream for your kids’ future, and maybe upload a picture too. You can also vote on other dreams you like and Upromise will be giving away $1,000 to 10 different winners, and $10,000 to one very lucky dreamer. Go to the dream wall official rules page for more details.
In my area of North Tampa, Publix, Winn Dixie, Sweetbay, and CVS all participate in the Upromise program. What’s great is that you can clip eCoupons in your Upromise account and when you swipe your store card at the checkout counter, you will receive the value of that coupon in your account with Upromise. You can also link your debit or credit card to Upromise to receive cash back at restaurants, stores, and online retailers (and you know how I love cash back!) You can then link your Upromise account to a savings account, a 529 college savings plan, pay for current Sallie Mae debt (ahem, my husband!), or request a check! Any way you look at it, it’s free money!
I have to say, after looking into Upromise today, I’m really excited to get on board. Right now we have $.09 in our account. I can’t wait to turn it into hundreds or even thousands of dollars by the time our children are ready for college. So that’s my dream. What about you? What is your dream for your children? I hope you’ll spend a minute or so and share with everyone by leaving a comment here. And don’t forget to post your dream on the Dream Wall (go to www.upromisetodream.com to share).
