Yesterday’s Tampa Tribune had an extremely interesting article called Countdown to a Food Coma by Shirley S. Wang. It had Strategies for Before, During and After your Thanksgiving meal. To read the entire article, go HERE. Below are the tips the article had:
Day Before: Go for a 30 minute stroll or more vigorous activity. The benefits of exercise on how fat is processed after a big meal kick in many hours later. **anyone going to work out today? 🙂
8 a.m. Thanksgiving: Eat a healthy breakfast to rev up metabolism **My hubby and I will stop at Dunkin Donuts for a large coffee and bagel after we run the 5k and 10k Turkey Trot.. I will be tempted to order a donut but may refrain now that I’ve read this article
11 a.m. Thanksgiving: Avoid the temptation to snack in the kitchen.
4 pm: Thanksgiving Dinner
After the Feast: Take a leisurely walk, nothing vigorous. Skip the late-night leftovers and get back to regular meal sizes and schedules. **I will try for this although I may end up in a food coma and in bed by 8 pm 🙂
**What tips do all of you have? I run the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving a.m. so as to get my metabolism going. What do you do to avoid gaining 5 pounds on Thanksgiving day 🙂

Hi Lisa! I’m doing the Turkey Trot in Clearwater. It is really awesome – they have thousands of people participating. You can run, walk, push strollers, etc. http://www.tampabay.com/turkeytrot/

I live in Orlando and they have one downtown at Lake Eola and I was curious if that was the one but I guess not. It must be a nationwide thing.

Yup! I think that Turkey Trots are nation-wide. When we are in St Louis with our in-laws over Thanksgiving, a town near them has a Turkey Trot too. Have fun at your race!

I am headed to Jazzercise at 9:00 tomorrow. They are calling it “Huff Before you Stuff”. They said to wear our aprons and they will post pics on the Westchase Jazzercise website. Looking forward to it! Happy Thansgiving.
