Adoption Update – REALLY Good News! :)

This is Jeff again, at the request of my wife, as she wanted me to give you a quick update on the adoption process since so many of you have been praying for and thinking about and well-wishing us – WE PASSED EMBASSY! I was up until 12:30 a.m. last night (and I am an early riser not a night-owl) because that was the moment the man who found our son was supposed to appear in court, at 7:30 a.m. Africa time. I said a quick prayer and went to bed.

I awoke out of some serious REM sleep at about 5 a.m. and checked my phone, only to see that I had missed multiple Facetime requests and messages from Liza letting me know the good news. The finder gave his testimony this morning, and this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. (6 a.m. our time) Liza appeared with Asher before the Embassy for her interview, and she will have a Visa and passport for Asher waiting for her tomorrow morning.

After scrambling back and forth with our travel agent trying to nail down the quickest but most affordable flight we could find, we booked a Lufthansa flight that leaves late Sunday night and arrives in Washington DC on Monday afternoon. (You don’t even want to know how much that set us back – definitely not frugal!)  I’ll be flying up to meet Liza and Asher and I’m sure she will be glad to give that boy to Dad for a few minutes.  We will then fly back to Florida as a family together forever.  😉 Now we pray for safe travels and no paperwork hangups en route.

Thanks again for all your support and prayers – we truly do consider the many of you who check in weekly and even monthly as part of our extended family. I’m sure Liza will have much to say when she gets back.

    I adopted internationally 8 years ago so I know firsthand some of the amazing highs and lows you’ve experienced on this journey. The best is yet to come! Congratulations on your beautiful family! (PS I truly wanted to kiss the ground when we made it through Immigration at the Miami airport… Such overwhelming relief and thankfulness! Your wife will totally know what I mean!!!) God bless.

    Wonderful news. The next couple of weeks will be tough ones while Asher adjusts to all the changes in his life. It is hard on the little guys. We know his life will be so much better but he only knows his life is in upheaval. I am sure you guys had to learn all about this while getting prepared for the adoption. While Liza will want to take a much needed break and have you take over Asher duty once you are all together, he may not be quite as thrilled since he does not recognize you as his daddy yet. Family and friends will want to help but Asher needs to bond to the two of you. Hang tough. You WILL make it through. I let Liza know in the past that there is an International Adoption Clinic down at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. Have Asher checked out there. Your pediatrician will be able to give you a referral if you need one. Lastly, be on the lookout for post adoption depression. I had it for a little while. Not fun. If it hits, just know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am not trying to scare you with all of this. Rather, I hope you know that you are not alone. I wish your family a lifetime of happiness.

    I have tears on my cheeks as I am reading this! God is good! I will continue to pray as Liza and Asher come home and you all settle into a routine with him. He will know the love of God through both of you and you are changing this little boy’s life forever, just like Jesus changed ours. Awesome news!
