Amazon has announced that starting today, January 19th, if you sign up for a new Amazon Prime account, your monthly cost will increase from $10.99 to $12.99. Starting today, January 19th, if you sign up for a new Prime Student Monthly Plan, your monthly cost will increase from $5.49 to $6.49 per month. If you have an existing monthly Prime or Prime Student account, you will pay the new price for renewals starting after February 18, 2018.
There is good news though! If you pay for an Annual Prime or Annual Prime Student account, your cost will stay at $99 per year or $49 per year (for students). It definitely pays to pay for an annual membership right upfront instead of paying monthly!

Want to know my thoughts on this? If you have the funds to purchase an annual membership upfront, versus paying monthly, $99 per year is worth it. I love being able to get free 2 day shipping on all of my Prime eligible orders. We also watch Prime movies & TV shows weekly AND I’ve become addicted to streaming music to my phone or speakers. I know longer listen to CDs – instead I just listen to music on Amazon. The annual cost of $99/year is definitely worth it for us. However, if you pay monthly, you will be paying $155.88 per year ($12.99 x 12 months). That’s a significant increase. $155 could still be worth it for you but I think you need to really evaluate if you will use Prime and it’s benefits enough to get your money’s worth. And like I said, it definitely pays to pay for an annual membership instead of paying monthly.
