Some of you may have heard about this, but Publix has recalled plastic bags of romaine lettuce due to concerns that they may be contaminated with listeria.
If you bought 10-ounch plastic bags of Publix hearts of romaine and chopped hearts of romaine between 9/8/12 – 9/20/12 in the following counties, please take note: Alachua, Baldwin, Bay, Clay, Columbia, Duval, Escambia, Flagler, Lee, Leon, Marion, Nassau, Okaloosa, Putnam, Santa Rosa, St. Johns, Suwannee, Volusia and Walton.
According to an article from CFNEWS13.com, “Listeria monocytogenes is an illness that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infection in young children, elderly people or others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may suffer short-term symptoms like fever, severe headache, nausea, pain or diarrhea. Pregnant women could experience miscarriage or stillbirth if infected with listeria.”
Consumers who have purchased the bags of lettuce may return them to their local store for a full refund.
If you were affected and have other questions, you can call 1-800-242-1227 or visit http://www.publix.com.
Thanks for letting us know, Tracy!
