Every week I talk about the money we can save with Walgreens Balance Rewards. But did you know that you will get rewarded for living a healthy life with Balance Rewards? I have been a mom for a full year now. And when I look back at this year, I realize how blessed I’ve been having a healthy son who is charming, bright and loving. But when I look back, I also see just how tired I am. I used to be a runner. I ran marathons, half marathons and shorter races. I ran 4-5 times a week. After becoming a mom, my running dwindled and dwindled down. I was able to run a half marathon this past winter, but after that, I haven’t been able to get the energy to work out and run like I should. I don’t know if you have a hard time putting yourself and your health first. But if you do find this difficult, I can relate. Walgreens Balance Rewards program rewards us when we set health goals and it also helps us track our progress. You can connect this program to many devices. I currently have it on my iPhone as does my husband.

balance-rewards-1I was really excited to try this program out. If you have a smart phone, you can download the Walgreens App for free! Or, you can create an account on your laptop! Once I was on my app, I scrolled through all of the categories and clicked on “BR for healthy choices.” From there, I was able to set my first healthy goal. I gave myself a goal of walking 3,000 steps a day. You can connect the app RunKeeper, MyFitnessPal and MapMyFitness to your Walgreens app! (I have two of these apps on my phone already!) Or, if you have a Fitbit, iHealth Tracker or Jawbone Up24, you can connect those devices to your app.

balance-rewards-2I took my son for a walk and walked 1,000 steps. My Balance Rewards for healthy choices app logged my 1,000 steps and let me know that I was 33% to goal! balance-rewards-4Besides helping us meet our physical goals, they reward us with points as we meet them! The frugal girl in me loves this! Because as you know, Balance Rewards points equal money! Just 5,000 points equals $5.00 or 10,000 points equals $10.00! When you set your first healthy goal, you will receive 250 points. When you link a device or app to your Walgreens app, you will earn another 250 points. And for each mile you run, walk or bike, you will earn 20 points! There are even more ways to earn points that don’t involve fitness. If you get your blood pressure or blood glucose tested, you will earn 20 points per test! The pic below shows all of the ways to earn Balance Rewards points:

balance-rewardsFor me, using this app is a no-brainer. I need to walk more. I need to sweat more. 🙂 This app will not only keep me on goal but reward me with Balance Rewards to use at Walgreens the next time I shop!

The charity I decided to support is water.org. As many of you know, we adopted our son from Ethiopia. Over the two combined trips I made to Ethiopia last summer, I was able to live there for over a month. I stayed in Addis Ababa. In Addis (at least where I stayed), there was running water. However, the water was not safe to drink, or even brush your teeth with, unless you boiled it. While I was there, I didn’t eat any fruits or vegetables for fear that they weren’t cleaned with bleach and thus, I might have gotten violently sick. Many areas of Ethiopia (and other areas of Africa) do not have access to water at all! It is not uncommon for people to walk for miles to fill buckets of water. So because of this, I wanted my iMyne account to be linked to water.org.
