This is a really fun week to go grocery shopping!  There are lots of Mexican food related ingredients on sale and Mexican food is one of my favorite types of food to cook and eat!  Taco ingredients, avocados, tortilla chips, the list goes on and on.  We have our fridge stocked with fresh produce from our coop (I’m so happy we got lots of avocados, tomatoes and cilantro this week) so I only bought fresh corn today.  I wanted to get tortilla chips but frankly, we forgot.  I’m pretty excited about making a huge Mexican meal on Cinco de Mayo!

We had quite the shopping haul today!  I had the $10 off $50 Publix coupon from this past Sunday’s paper and I had a  $5.00 off $30.00 Winn Dixie Enjoy the City coupon burning a hole in my pocket so my hope was to reach $80.00 worth of items.  Hubby was thrilled with the fact that we were able to replenish some of our frozen food supply with Innovasion & El Monterey Goodies.  I was thrilled that I didn’t let my $3.00 off Udi’s Product coupons expire (they expire 4/30) and was able to get four gluten-free frozen pizzas for $3.99 each.  Definitely not the best deal, but when you are gluten-free, you have to pay a bit more for convenience.  (Hopefully the pizzas are good!)

What a week!  It was a busy week in our household.  I ran the Iron Girl Half Marathon this past Sunday and so started the week a bit more achy and tired than usual.  And then mentally – goodness – what a week.  While blogging here on Monday morning, I watched the Boston Marathon  live online.  I love track & field and wanted to see who won and how Shalane Flanagan and Kara Goucher did.  So I watched for about 2 and a half hours until the top male & finishers completed their marathons.  I was also tracking one of my friends from high school as she was running Boston for the second time.  In the afternoon, I left my computer for about an hour and when I returned, the bombing had just occurred.  This bombing has rocked me as I know it has rocked all of the US. To know that just the day before I had crossed the finish line of a local half marathon (where my husband was cheering me on) and then within a little over 24 hours later to see such a horrific event at a race that I hope to someday run in. What a week.

Publix sales don’t stop for bad weeks though and there were some deals we wanted to take advantage of. I desperately need Extra Virgin Olive so we took advantage of the BOGO sale. And hubby was thrilled to be able to stock up on his favorite food – pizza.  On Wednesday, I posted the picture below on Addicted to Saving’s Instagram page of my refrigerator. Last week, we had two days (Sunday after my half marathon and Monday) where I didn’t cook as “fresh and clean” as I usually do.  Because of this, when we picked up our produce bin at our coop this Wednesday, I realized our fridge was literally overflowing with produce. Let’s just say that we are juicing A LOT and eating a lot of fresh produce right now! (Tomorrow I’m planning on making a huge pot of soup and using as many of my veggies as possible.)

This week is an eclectic shopping week at Publix.  There are some sales I have never seen before (Reser’s Au Gratin and Reser’s Entrees) and some great stockpile priced deals on household staples like Finish Quantum and 2000 Flushes.  (Although, to be honest, I bought 2000 Flushes for the first time today.. do you all like this product?)  Hubby found an awesome deal on Duncan Hines Frosting Creations by combining the Publix coupon with manufacturer coupons.  And I was able to continue to replenish our dwindled canned tomatoes stockpile!  We went into Publix armed with a $25.00 gift card and so that made today’s shopping trip even more fun for us! 🙂

This was a busy week for us! Long hours plus lack of sleep made for a long week and I’m happy for it to be almost over! Next weekend I’m running the Iron Girl Half Marathon and I’ve been trying to do a bit more exercise than my normal running workouts to prepare for going over bridges both ways. So the extra exercise has tired me out even more. That’s life though right! I’m always wishing for more hours in the day and more energy to do everything!

It is crazy to think that this time last week I was in sunny California! As you all know, Hyundai sent me out there to test drive the new Santa Fe. I LOVED both San Diego (it was my first time there) and the Santa Fe. Their ad is HUGE (go HERE to see this week’s Publix Weekly Ad & Coupon Matchups) and there are lots of high value printable coupons and insert coupons we can match with the sales. We went armed with coupons and ended up doing a lot of damage! We spent $14.61 on everything pictured above. Not bad right? Since we don’t have kiddos yet, I’m giving the yogurt and juice to a friend who has young kiddos. We will also donate the sauce and the canned green beans.

I know you might think it odd for me to purchase items that I am only going to give away, but I could not resist Ragu for $0.33 or Mott’s Juice for $0.25! When I first started couponing, I gave very little of my food away. Now that I have a large stockpile, I will occasionally add to it, but not that often. Instead, when there are rock bottom priced deals, I will take advantage of them and either switch out older items in my stockpile or give them away. Couponing is an awesome way to use your food to bless others!

It is a great week to go grocery shopping at Publix! As I put together my grocery shopping list, I knew it was going to be a good one. Lots of stockpile priced deals! It was interesting to see that I ended up using a lot of insert coupons.  It seems like lately I have been using mostly printable coupons.  But today was different!  Guess I will keep buying my Sunday papers! 🙂

**As a side note – there has been some discussion on Addicted to Saving’s Facebook page regarding the fact that I purchased a lot of processed food today. I did. I bought 6 boxes of cereal, 1 box of Pop-Tarts, 4 Chef Boyardee and some more. As a reminder, I don’t purchase produce because every week I get an overflowing fruit & veggie bin from my local coop. Also, as a reminder, we give away approximately 50% of our groceries each week. When I went gluten-free, we made a conscious decision to continue taking advantage of all of the rock-bottom deals available with the intent of paying them forward or saving a box or two here or there for hubby. 😉
