Photo Show and Tell – Publix 11/15/10

I am so late posting my Photo Show and Tell this week! I did my shopping Thursday night but now here I am posting this on an early Monday evening! These sales are still going on – they will end Wednesday or Tuesday depending on where you live. I didn’t buy a ton of food during this shopping trip because I knew that I wouldn’t be home much the past few days. But I did stock up on Nestle Toll House Morsels because I go through bags and bags morsels when I bake cookies over the holidays. Now is the time to start stocking up on baking and cooking ingredients you use in your favorite holiday meals. So, starting planning ahead and figuring out what you will want to cook and bake this November and December and when you see those items on sale (and you have coupons to use) buy them now! I also scored excellent deals on the Voila frozen meals because the bags all had $1.00 peelies. See my scenario below to score very very cheap bags of Voila meals. Also – if you have the coupons for Vigo Yellow Rice, even if you don’t use the rice, I would recommend you purchase it to donate.

Happy November! For my first shopping trip of the month I had a hugely successful day. I made two Publix shopping trips today. I went to my favorite Publix which is 2 minutes from my house and then I went to a Publix a little farther from my house because I had six $1.00/1 Target Produce coupons that expired tomorrow and the farther Publix accepts Target coupons. I got a ton of freebies and during my second Publix trip I actually had to buy a small package of sandwich crackers (they were $0.34) in order for the cashier to be able to use all of the coupons I gave her! 😉 My favorite deal that I took advantage of was the FREE Rubbermaid containers I was able to stock up on!! I am planning on making homemade chili and and these containers will be perfect to replace the older containers I have used day in and day out for storing leftovers. The thing I LOVE about couponing is that I never know what I am going to get free. I’m used to getting great deals on pasta, cookie mix, etc etc but freebies like Rubbermaid containers really make my day!

I am going to combine both transaction into one so that you can see everything easily but on my first trip I spend $2.36 and saved $68.66 and on my second trip I spend $0.14 – yes fourteen cents – and saved $47.66.

There are some great deals at Publix this week. Free pasta, free Cascadian Farm cerial, FREE Muir Glen sauce, and some other cheap deals. I really wanted to purchase some produce this week which I ended up accomplishing. I think I’m going to try using the Muir Glen sauce I have stockpiled along with the cans I bought today to use in my family’s red sauce recipe… So, homemade meatballs (using frozen ground turkey I have stockpiled) and red sauce may be in the menu next week. I wasn’t planning on buying Quaker True delights granola bars (they are a favorite in our house) but when I saw that there was $1.00/1 peelies on them, I couldn’t pass them up. So, be on the lookout for the peelies! I also bought more Yakisoba noodles because they are $0.10 each and I plan to donate all of them and more to the Warren Backpack Program on November 20th. The Warren Backpack Program gives homeless children easy to fix food so that they have food to eat when they are not at school. Go HERE for more information on the Addicted to Giving Back program as well as drop off location and time if you would like to help. I did spend maybe a bit more money than planned, but I bought a lot so I’m pleased.

Can you believe it’s time for another Photo Show and Tell? These weeks are flying by and I feel like I was just typing up last week’s Photo Show and Tell. Crazy. I don’t know about you, but I’m not overly thrilled with this week’s Publix ad. Don’t get me wrong, there are a ton of great sales, but for me and my household’s needs, there really wasn’t much that I wanted to buy and stockpile away. I wish I had better coupons for the Dial deal because we are in desperate need of bar soap.. and I wish I had better Steamfresh Veggies coupons because we love Steamfresh veggies (the ones w/o sauce). But, my coupons were only average so I didn’t go crazy. I was excited about the asparagus sale and even though I had no coupons I was also excited about the Aunt Jemima sale.. Oh – I also received my $5.00 Publix Rebate Gift Card from the Kellogg’s Cinnabon Deal I posted about in HERE August.. so, at least I had $5.00 off of my total purchase today 😉 I ended up spending more money than I would have liked considering what I bought, but I’m fine with it.

Happy Friday! I’m so happy this week is over! It has been a really long week for me and I’m happy that the weekend is here! I had fun at Publix today – like always 🙂 Today was actually the first day I left the house since my surgery so walking around Publix was a bit interesting. Usually when I shop, I am in and out of the store in 30 minutes or less. But, today, my trip took a bit longer as I got distracted quite a bit and was just very slow walking around. I am SO disappointed that I didn’t print out the $2.00/1 Nestle candy coupon that I told all of you about at least 3 times. Hopefully you all printed it because you will get an outstanding deal on candy. Since I didn’t print it, I will be scanning the sales for candy deals in the next two weeks and I will keep you posted with what I find! Regarding my trip today, I will tell you up front – I spent more money on this one Publix trip than I have spent on any one trip all year. Part of me wants to be frustrated over that fact, but I was able to purchase 8 bags of coffee (we go through it like it is water), more of the Crunchmaster crackers (using a rain check) and I bought over $25 worth of P&G products so I can submit for another Cooking Up Early Detection kitchenware rebate set (using my mom’s info). So, I’m pleased. I still have veggies left from Jeff’s grocery trip last week and my freezer still has meat so yet again, I focused on sales and getting the kitchenware rebate.

**On a personal note, thank you to everyone who posted kind comments and sent me emails about my health. I am doing really well and I’m recovering nicely. I didn’t realize the surgery was going to be quite as extensive as it actually was so the entire experience has been extremely humbling. You all were so patient with me while I was away from my computer and I wanted to thank all of you for your kind words and prayers.

So last week Liza promised a guest blogger to do her weekly Publix Photo Show and Tell, and I must confess, I was more nervous to go shopping today than I have ever been in my life…and I’m her husband! Yes, her special guest blogger is her hubby, and when your wife knows how to seriously get it done at any store she walks into, this task was a bit daunting (especially coming off of her 9 cents before tax Publix run last week). I know what you’re thinking – how can you be nervous, you see her do this every week? True, but it’s kind of like when you bump into an old acquaintance at your kid’s piano recital and you both talk about how you should get together one of these days but instead you go about your merry ways because some things are more fun to talk about than to actually do. Talking about how much you can save and actually doing it are totally different, even when your wife IS a professional savings blogger.

Nonetheless, I decided to take on the challenge, man up, and prove to reluctant and spineless men everywhere that couponing is a piece of cake! Please note that I did not consult Liza, but simply went to her Publix weekly ad, looked for anything in RED b/c I know those are the good deals, made my list and headed out! (Confession – she did make me cut the Hunt’s Tomatoes coupons knowing full well I would’ve gladly left them uncut). Because we have a sufficient stockpile, I knew there was nothing pressing that we needed, so keep that in mind too.

Now I know why you need a list – weak sales items that you really want are so tempting (Parmesan cheese, I just couldn’t buy you without a coupon)! But seeing as I’m a sugar-a-holic, I purchased the Publix sugar 5 lb bag (best value) without a trace of guilt and will gladly enjoy it in tomorrow’s coffee. The best part about the trip? Totino’s pizzas for $0.83 a pizza! Yes, Liza tells me the sauce tastes like ketchup – which is ironic since I don’t like tomatoes – but since when did your husband do anything that made any sense?

You’ll notice I splurged on the Luigi’s Italian Ice (with no coupon), but it’s a BOGO and quite frankly, I thought my wife, who’s been laid up in bed for 24 hours with a sore throat, might enjoy the cool, soothing deliciousness of such a fun treat!

I know I didn’t save as much as Liza does (or as much as many of you do), but I actually had a blast in my first Publix coupon run! We got cheap fresh veggies, yummy Planters for less than two quarters, inexpensive gum (and I’m a freak about my breath), and that really cool Resolve that lets you wipe the stick over a stain and you don’t have to wash for 7 days – how neat is that!

Thanks for letting me be a guest blogger – you all have blessed her so much with your comments, meaning you’ve blessed me indirectly in the process. (And FYI, it is a LOT of work to post these…wow).

I had so much fun at Publix today. I actually threw together all of my coupons this morning and for the first time in a long time, I didn’t go into Publix knowing ahead of time what I was going to spend. (Usually, I have the math done ahead of time for my entire grocery list.) It was a bit of a gamble, but I knew that I had a lot of great deals in my cart so I was able to stock up on two bags of apples, plums, bananas, acorn squash and asparagus. Despite all of the produce I bought, I still ended up spending $0.09 before tax. With tax, I spent $4.15! I was thrilled and I have to say that my cashier was the best. She is one of my store’s customer service managers and she never flinches when she sees me coming with a huge wad of coupons.

Also – stay tuned for next week’s Photo Show and Tell which will be posted sometime Friday, October 8th.. I will be a bit under the weather next week so you will have a guest blogger for my Photo Show and Tell. I’m really excited about it and I can’t wait to see how they do on their shopping trip! 🙂

I did a quick Publix run this afternoon. I’m excited to try the Gluten Free Crunchmaster Multi-Grain Crackers. I’m hoping they taste as good as they look on the bag 🙂 I did spend more money out of pocket today than I have in a long time. I can’t really figure out why because looking at the picture, I don’t see a ton of groceries. I saved 84% which is the lowest percentage I have saved in a long time. BUT, I did get Q-tips for my stockpile and crackers which I am entirely out of. And I got the sacred Half & Half for my husband. (He starts to get the nervous sweats when he gets low on his coffee creamer ;)) How did you all do this week? Did you find any great deals worth mentioning?
