I’m going to admit it. I love phones. I love all of the apps we can download, I love taking pictures with it and I love all of the smart phone capabilities that our phones never had back in the 90’s! My current phone is an iPhone 4 and it is on its last leg. It doesn’t get good cell reception and routinely drops my calls. Its battery lasts about 6 hours before I have to charge it. And it is very slow when I’m online. So when I was given the opportunity to try out the Huawei Ascend Mate 2, I jumped at it. Being in the market for a new phone, I wanted to see how the Ascend Mate 2 works and compares to my current phone.
The Ascend Mate 2 boasts the largest screen of any smart phone, 6.1” HD screen and longest battery life, 2.5 days (60 hours) on a single charge, plus 4G LTE and a 13MP camera. Once I received my phone and activated my service, I put the phone to the test. I wanted to test out how easy it was to activate, the phone’s screen size and the battery life.
With the Ascend Mate2, you choose the cellular network that you want and there is no 2-year contract or fees for changing carriers. The phone can be used with GSM cellular carrier (AT&T and T-Mobile) as well as pre-paid options. When I initially received the phone, I was unsure of whether or not the phone would become my primary phone. So I installed the SIMS card and used a 30 day pre-paid card to activate my service. It took me about 5 minutes to install the card and activate my service. It was simple. When I gave my gmail address, all of my contacts uploaded along with it. So simple.
Since it has such a large screen (6.1” HD), I wanted to use my phone to read the Kindle books I have downloaded on my Kindle. I downloaded the Amazon Kindle app and after logging in, all of my Kindle books were uploaded to my Ascend Mate 2.
I’m currently in the midst of reading Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and as you can see in the picture above, the large screen is perfect for reading books.
I also wanted to test the size of my Ascend Mate 2 by watching Netflix on it. I downloaded the Netflix app and after logging in, I got comfortable watching one of my favorite movies of all time (don’t laugh) “While You Were Sleeping.” I am a sucker for chick flicks! Anyways, the screen was clear, bright and perfect for watching movies or TV shows.
It was easy for me to test the battery life on the Ascend Mate 2. Since I used this phone for so much more than just texting and making phone calls, I was interested to see just how long the battery would last before I had to charge it again. I used the phone as my reader and read on it. I used it to watch a few episodes of Barney & Friends (for my son). And I used it to pull up construction vehicles on Youtube (again for my son). I used it to Facebook, answer emails and even approve comments on my blog. I took pictures with my phone and uploaded my pics to Instagram. The battery lasted over 24 hours. In fact, if I am being specific, it lasted almost two days! I was shocked. My current phone lasts just a quarter of that time and I barely use my current phone!
When it comes down to it, this phone came at just the right time for me. My current phone is old and not working properly. And this phone has so many features that are important to me. I would definitely recommend you check this phone out if you are in the market for a new phone. Go HERE to learn more about Huawei Phones, Accessories and TalkBands.
