I was ready for the challenge. I can’t say that I went for a full 72 hours without showering, but I did go 48 hours and I was very pleased with the protection Certain Dri gave. Last week I was telling you how it had been a while since I was able to test drive a car, and then all of a sudden I was able to do two in two weeks!  This time I was able to drive the 2014 Kia Soul, and I have to tell you, I had a blast – this car/mini-SUV is awesome!

For those who have followed my blog for a while, you might remember I test drove the 2012 Kia Soul a couple of years ago.  I enjoyed it then, but I have to tell you, they’ve made this vehicle even better.

It’s hard to miss the Soul (after all, Kia did a tremendous job marketing their product with those “you-can-get-with-this-or-you-can-get-with-that” mice a few years back). It rained the day they dropped it off so you’ll have to pardon the rainy pics. I got the Latte Brown color this time with gray interior. And as cute as the outside is, it’s the interior of the 2014 Soul that blew me away.

For starters, it’s important to note that I did have the Primo Package Trim, which comes with leather, immediately making you feel like you’re stepping into luxury even though it’s technically not a luxury line. I also quickly noticed that I got a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, as well as a Push Button start button and smart key, meaning that I literally never need to take my key out of my purse. So nice! (What I didn’t immediately notice was that the steering wheel itself is heated, along with the heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear outboard seats.) Living in Florida, I especially appreciate the cooling factor of the ventilated seats.

What should I talk about next (there was so much!)?  Let’s continue with the Primo Trim Package, which also includes:

• Panoramic sunroof with power sunshade (which is fun even in the rain!);
• Speaker lights that bump and glow in concert with the music you play;
• Front fog lights;
• Engine immobilizer.

There is more, but that gives you the idea. With all that luxury, I’m sure you would expect to pay a ton, but it’s only $3000 to add everything I just mentioned in the last two paragraphs, which I thought was a total steal.

They also gave me the 8” Touch Screen with Navigation and Rear Camera Display, which is an absolute must-have for me in my next vehicle. Included in the Audio package is the Infinity Sound System, Sirius XM Traffic, Automatic on/off headlights, and Automatic Climate control.

Some of you might not find the $1900 price tag worth it unless you get all of those features, but I would pay it just to have the touch screen Navigation and Rear Camera Display, that’s how much I loved having it.

I loved driving the Kia Soul.  The feel of the steering wheel, the intuitive nature of the Nav screen, the Bluetooth Technology with voice command – all of these features made for a luxury driving experience.

But even without the upgrades, you’re still getting a great bang for your buck. As I mentioned previously, the Bluetooth Technology with voice command is standard, and so are the USB/auxiliary ports, as well as the 12V power outlets. You get a 3-month Sirius Satellite Radio subscription, and everything is power (power doors and power windows).

It’s also relatively spacious, and the LATCH feature for Asher’s carseat were super easy to find and use. The back seats also fold without much effort, making it easy to maneuver and handle whatever items are in your hands.

As with all Kia’s, it comes with a 10/yr 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, as well  which is the best in the business, and really sets your mind at ease just in case something major goes wrong during those first few years you own your Soul.

The smaller 2.4L engine still leaves a little bit to be desired for me personally, but the 2014 Kia Soul is cute on the outside, gorgeous on the inside, and get this – the basic package comes in at just over $18,000, brand spanking new. Can you believe that? With the goodies that I mention above, you’re still under $25k, and you are driving and living like a queen (or king).

Mitsubishi provided the Mitsubishi Lancer GT for me to test drive. As always, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

It had been a while since I was asked to do a “mommy blog car review,” so I was happy to have the opportunity recently to do it again, this time with the 2014 2.4L Mitsubishi Lancer GT. How sharp does the above pic look? I remember when the Lancer was smaller and boxier, but I’m loving the sleek new look of the 2014 model.

Now truthfully, I usually get the “geeked up” models with all the extras and goodies, but this time they sent me just the base model with not a single upgrade. This was good, because it allowed me to really judge the car on its entry point into the compact car space.

One of the first things I noticed, other than its sharp Rally Red color, was the fast key entry system, which allows you to just push a button on the door handle to get in your vehicle. It’s better than keyless entry, because you don’t have to fish for your car keys out of your purse (and what mom hasn’t been there in the pouring rain or hot sun after a grocery store trip?!).  I love this feature.

The inside is spacious and very modern feeling. The 4-door model I drove gives a family vibe, comfortably seating 5 people (car seats included).

Even though it’s family friendly when it comes to space, take a look at the front dash. Sleek and modern , complete with automatic climate control, 6.1″ touch screen display, high contrast meter gauges, and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

Some of the other fun features in the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer GT are found on the steering wheel. Volume and channel can both be controlled from there, as well as the “coast” feature.  Another standard feature is the FUSE Handsfree Link System w/ USB port.  If you you notice on the right hand side of the picture below, there’s a “paddle shifter” for those looking to have a little fun with the sport tuned suspension. Not my thing, but definitely something hubby appreciated!

So what are some of the other standard features in the 2014 2.4L Mitsubishi Lancer GT?

For one, Sirius XM Satellite Radio with a 3-month subscription, and digital HD radio.

Another standard feature, which moms everywhere are sure to love, is the rearview camera system. This is a MUST HAVE for my next vehicle, so I love that it comes standard in the 2014 Lancer.

What else comes standard? How about this little guy?  Haha!  Sorry, he’s a one-of-a-kind, and was helping us take pictures (please note the car was not running and was completely stationary sitting in my driveway!).  This was just too cute to not include.

For those of you who would like a few more stats on the 2014 Lancer, here are a few that I think you’ll find helpful:

• 10 yr/100,000 mile powertrain warranty
• 5 years unlimited roadside service
• 26 average MPG’s (23 city, 30 hwy)
• Frontal crash and Side crash front seat 5-star safety rating
• Power door locks, windows, and side-view mirrors
• 12-volt accessory outlet
• Anti-theft Alarm system
• 18″ alloy wheels, which happen to look like this:

So how did it actually drive, you ask? Very sportily! (I don’t think that’s a word, but it should be.) Definitely has some get-up-and-go with the 2.4 L. However, if you know anything about me, while I am a very cautious driver, I tend to “get up and go” myself from the stopped position, so I would love to see an even bigger engine. 😉  That said, I thought it handled the curves and road very well, and with the Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body, Active Stability Control, and 7-airbags, I felt very safe on the road.

I should also let you know that the Lancer spares no expense when it comes to the exterior of the car.  With auto-off halogen headlights, fog lights, chrome-accented front grille and rear wing spoiler, you will definitely be noticed in this vehicle.

What’s all this going to set you back? The 2014 2.4L Mitsubishi Lancer GT has an MSRP of $21,445. I think that’s a pretty fair price, especially considering what you get from the “base” model.
