Have you heard of Champions for Kids? I hadn’t until recently, so I feel privileged to help spread the word about this awesome organization. While I’m all about saving money and it’s the reason I started this blog nearly 5 years ago now, helping others is far more gratifying than keeping more money in the bank. This is especially true when you’re talking about helping children – this is exactly what Champions for Kids does. Go HERE for more info on Champions for Kids!
Champions for Kids seeks to leverage the compassion that we all have for the least of these, and one simple way they’re doing it thru SIMPLE Projects. Whether it’s gathering school supplies for teachers, participating in food or book drives, donating your stockpile from couponing, average folks from around the country are joining up to benefit the children in their local communities.
As many of us are preparing for Back to School deals, I’m hoping we can all be Champions for Kids by donating a backpack while we’re out bargain-hunting, like I got to do today. It’s really simple. Just head to your local Walmart, buy and donate a backpack at the in-store Champions for Kids display, and then share your experience with a picture on social media. Use the hashtag #SimpleServeSave and for every 5 donations shared on social media, Savings.com will donate a backpack too!
If you belong to any moms groups, couponing clubs, church groups, or other civic organizations, maybe you can all take an outing and have a “Backpack Donating Party!” Or maybe you can use this as a teaching moment with your little ones about the importance of serving and giving. It’s a great chance to take the savings you get from being frugal year round and help someone else who needs a little boost.
When you are at your local Walmart, look for the Champions for Kids display. In the display case are pre-filled backpacks priced at $19.97. The backpack is filled with all of the back-to-school necessities children will need for school. (Side note – My normally photogenic son was starting to get sick when we took tons of pictures – and I mean tons – of our shopping trip at Walmart. It is actually quite hilarious to see all of the pics we took and how unenthused he was in all of them. Quite the change from his happy face saying “cheese” whenever he sees us waving our phones in his face to take pics!)
Above you can a good view of all of the items included in the backpack! There is even $55 worth of coupons in the backpack!
Mother and son as we get ready to purchase and then donate our backpack!
After you purchase your backpack, ask the cashier where the donation bin is for Champions for Kids. My local Walmart actually did not have their donation bin out yet. They said that once the bin is out, it will be located right by customer service. If you don’t know where the bin is, head to customer service and they will let you know where to find it!
Remember to share a picture of the experience on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or wherever else you’re online, with the hashtag #SimpleServeSave.
I can’t wait to see the pictures you post! Make sure you tag Addicted to Saving on FB or @addicted2saving on Twitter so I can get a look myself at all the fun. 🙂
