I lived in New England until college and then went to college in the mid-west. I never experienced allergies until my husband and I moved to the south. There is something about the air quality down here that leaves both myself and my husband sneezing, coughing and with dry eyes. I was so excited to review FRAM Fresh Breeze cabin air filters in an attempt to decrease a little of my exposure to the allergens here in Florida.
FRAM Fresh Breeze cabin filters promise to filter 98% of the contaminants from the outside air that passes through the filter into your car. Contaminants like road dust and pollen commonly enter the car through outside air flow and the FRAM Fresh Breeze Cabin air filter combats that. FRAM Fresh Breeze also utilizes Arm & Hammer baking soda for odor absorption! The baking soda combined with carbon embedded into the filter assist in cleaning outside air flowing through the vehicle’s ventilation system.
I headed to Walmart to purchase a FRAM Fresh Breeze Air Filter. As you can see in the picture above, there were countless models of this filter to choose from. Walmart has an electronic lookup that shows what type of filter works on your car. I entered my car’s year and model number and the electronic lookup didn’t show that there was an air filter that matched my car. Fortunately, I had my smartphone and was able to go to FRAM’s website and find the air filter that matched my car.
The picture below on the left shows my smart phone’s lookup, the picture on the right shows the electronic lookup that Walmart provided which omitted my car’s info.
I spent under $19.00 on this air filter. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the air filter was very affordable! And, to help make FRAM Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filters even more affordable, right now you can print this $4.00 Mail in Rebate when you buy one FRAM Oil Filter AND FRAM Air Filter. I headed home and on Sunday afternoon, hubby and I decided to install the air filter together. The instructions that come along with the FRAM Fresh Breeze Air Filter are easy to understand, however, we had a difficult time finding the exact spot we were looking for. FRAM’s website was having technical difficulties so I wasn’t able to watch the how-to videos they provide on their site. However, per the written instructions, we were looking for an “arm” by our glove compartment. We could not find it. We opened the glove compartment looking for the arm, we closed the glove compartment looking for the arm, nothing.
We decided to refer to the owner’s manual of our car and it showed us that the air filter was actually accessed under the hood of our car. So we opened the hood and pulled out the air filter that our manual directed us to.
The air filter was not a size match to the new FRAM Fresh Breeze Air Filter I purchased. I was baffled. Hubby was ready to go back to Walmart to get a new sized air filter when he had a light bulb moment and realized the air filter we removed from our engine was the engine’s air filter, not the cabin air filter! We went back to the glove compartment and hubby had a second light bulb moment as we figured out how to open the side of the glove compartment and access the air filter.
We had a huge sense of accomplishment as we were removing the old air filter (pictured below).
The gray filter in the picture below was our old filter. The filter with the black border is our new, clean filter! It feels so good to know that the air filter in our car is now cleaned and that the Arm & Hammer baking soda in the filter is improving the quality of the air!
It is recommended that this air filter be changed twice a year. I have added a reminder on my Google Calendar six months from now so that I know it is time to replace my air filter. Now that I have changed the air filter, next time, I know it will take me less than 5 minutes to change it. And, I will save so much money changing it myself and using the FRAM Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter. Mechanics will charge between $50 -$100 to replace the cabin air filter and I will spend under $20.00. Awesome savings!

I would have never thought to change an air filter.. IN A VEHICLE! Neat, I’ll look into this.
Yay! I’m so glad Tricina. I know, I was very surprised too, and now that I’ve done it once, it was soooo easy. I hope it makes a difference and less stuffy in the car!
About a year ago we upgraded cars and not once did I know that this filter existed. I’ve taken my car to places to get the oil changed and they’ve always mentioned the engine filter, but never this one. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I changed it tonight and it definitely needed changing. I can’t wait to pick up another filter and change my the one in my wife’s car, as I’m sure it will need it.
Awesome Scott! I have to tell you, we were totally clueless about it too. 🙂 But when you think about changing the filters at home for air quality, it makes sense there’s a filter to change for air quality in your car. Glad to know this helped!
