Does anyone know if cottage cheese, cream cheese and sour cream freeze well in the freezer?
Dairy products separate and get crumbly when frozen and then thawed. I don’t mind it for cottage cheese if I use it in lasagna but to just eat it, it would change the texture a lot. Sour cream does a little better if you thaw and then blend with a mixer to try and get everything “back together”. Cream cheese is not smooth anymore but still edible if frozen. As you can see, it is not recommended but I do it when things are just too inexpensive to pass up.
I’m glad you shared this Sue! My husband was asking if we could freeze it as well. I’ve frozen regular cheese before but never cottage.. Glad to hear your experience!
