I’m so jealous of all of you that have gone to Hunsader Farms and scored your 25 lbs of tomatoes for only $1.00!! (Go HERE for my original post on this. Please remember to call them first to make sure they have tomatoes available to be picked. I don’t want you to make the drive only to find out they have run out of tomatoes! ;)) I so badly want to go but have been home for the past week with a sick doggy. My hope is that my hubby and I can work our schedules so that he can stay with our dog while I take a short road trip to score my tomatoes too! That said, if I don’t get to go, I am having fun living vicariously through all of you who have emailed me about your successes! Melissa and Brigitta emailed me pictures that I thought I would share!
**Oh – random tip of the day, if you watched Extreme Home Makeover last night and if you saw the crazy looking machine that shot the volleyballs into the trailer, that machine was from Hunsader Farms.
Melissa picked all of the tomatoes, strawberries and green beans pictured above for a grand total of $7.50!! She said the strawberries and green beans were slim pickings but there were “ALOT” of tomatoes to pick! Also, Melissa let me know that there is a farm stand where you can select already picked produce and fruit.
Brigitta emailed me the two pictures above. She picked five buckets/bags of tomatoes and spent just $5.00! She made a super healthy lunch using her tomatoes using fresh bread, tomatoes, olive oil, salt, fresh basil and sweet onions. YUM.
Leave a comment if you have scored some veggie deals at a local farmstand, farm, co-op, etc. I know that produce is a difficult area to save money on so I would love to hear all of your insider tips!
Thanks for the pictures ladies! 🙂
My mom and I picked 175 lbs of tomatoes the day after you posted about it! Thanks for the info!
we are happy to find a co op that doesnt require a member ship fee, cant wait to go get some tomatoes to can and eat yum!
looks amazing! where is this wonderful place?
My wife and I just got back from Hunsader Farms and we got about 85 pounds of tomatoes for $2. They charge $1 per box/bag/bucket etc…(1 box was 49 pounds)
We also picked up some green beans and okra, then got 3 LARGE butternut squash and a cantaloupe from their market for a total of about $14.50
Thanks for the tip about the place.
