One of my Facebook friends posted a link to this article Milwaukee Number One in Coupon Usage and I’m totally stealing it (unbeknownst to him) to post on Addicted to Saving. The article states that the top cities that use coupons are:
1) Milwaukee
2) Philadelphia
3) Hartford/New Haven
4) Harrisburg/Lancaster
In Milwaukee 45% of households use coupons!! Why aren’t any southern cities in the top four? Let’s keep spreading the word about couponing!! If you are interested in reading this article, go HERE.
Thanks Joey 🙂
I’ve lived in and near 2 of the PA cities. I now live in the south. I could never afford to feed our family of 6 as well as I do now if I lived in the north. I often remark that to friends and family that still live there and we compare prices. For example, last year here, turkeys were 39 cents a pound at Thanksgiving without a coupon. Even with a store promotion(a coupon if you bought so much at the store), my mom paid 79 cents a pound! They are amazed how inexpensive food costs down here–even without coupons. In addition, stores up north where I lived didn’t double coupons and we never had B1G1 sales in the areas where I lived. I think that might be why southern folks use less coupons?(if that can be believed). When we lived up north, I bought in bulk, I grew most of my own food and I canned what I could to help the budget in the winter when I needed to buy heating oil.
Oops, should have said family of 8! I meant that we have 6 kids.
It’s ok! 🙂 I didn’t write it!
Thanks Joey!
I don’t think southern cities are doing it because the cost of living is so much lower. I live in TN for 3 years and people down there live in what I would consider mansions. The same family up here would live in a nice cape comparatively. Their kids graduate from high school and get a brand new SUV. There seems to be no need to coupon. Crazy stuff. Agreed Michelle.
