When Mohu emailed me to let me know they had a new boombox called Mohu BeBox and asked that I try it and type out a Mohu BeBox Review, I was SO excited! I love technology and I especially love combining technology with music! Last summer I reviewed the Mohu Leaf 50 Antenna. It was one of my most popular blog posts of the summer. We had cancelled cable and were looking for an alternate way to watch live TV. The Mohu Leaf was perfect for us! (Go HERE to read my post Why I’m Canceling Cable.) So I trust the quality of Mohu products and I was very intrigued to see how the Mohu BeBox worked and sounded!
The Mohu BeBox has a built-in Android tablet. This allows you to stream music directly from the BeBox using apps or you can also load songs onto the BeBox itself. And, if you have tons of music on your phone (like me), you can connect your phone to your BeBox (using Bluetooth) and instantly any music you are playing on your phone will stream over to the BeBox.
To set up my BeBox, it was really simple. Once I plugged in the BeBox and turned the power switch on, the BeBox walks you through the installation process. The main two steps to follow are 1) connecting the BeBox to your wifi (as simple as typing in your password once it recognizes your Wifi) and 2) typing in your gmail login and password (this is so you can download apps).
My favorite feature of the BeBox is Bluetooth Mode. I have a lot of music on my phone and love that with the push of a button, I can stream music to my BeBox. Also – the sound quality while streaming from my phone is AS GOOD as if the music was coming from an app on BeBox. I find a lot of times when I stream music via Bluetooth, the sound quality lacks. With the BeBox, I can not tell the difference. It has a pure sound and the music sounds amazing.
Because you login with your gmail address, you can actually check your email right on your BeBox. At first I didn’t think this was practical, but then I realized that if you place your BeBox in a convenient location, you can almost use your BeBox in lieu of your phone! So if you are like me and trying to stay off of your phone more, the BeBox will help you do this (by allowing you to check your emails from time to time 😉 ).
You can listen to music from countless apps on your BeBox. My favorite way is via Amazon Music. Once you log into your Amazon account, you can listen to all of the music you have purchased and also all of the free music from Prime (if you have a Prime account).
With each song you will see a picture of the album as shown above. The graphics are bold and look just like the graphics you would see on your phone or tablet.
I also listen to Pandora a lot on my BeBox. Pandora works the same way that it does on your phone. You can pull up your stations and it will immediately begin playing music from your stations.
Speaking of graphics – since your BeBox has video, you can even log into your video streaming accounts and watch videos on your BeBox. The viewing window for graphics is small – and at first I thought that I probably wouldn’t use this feature. But then I realized that if I have my BeBox in my kitchen, I could watch and listen to cooking shows while cooking. Brilliant! The battery life of the BeBox is 8 hours and I’ve found that I can go even longer without having to plug my BeBox into an electric outlet if I’m just listening to music from BeBox’s apps. And, while the BeBox is not a small speaker, it is small enough that I can easily move it from one room to another.
So if you can’t tell from my review, I really love the Mohu BeBox. For a music nerd like myself, I love the quality of the sound and I love the easy access to listening to music directly from the BeBox or via BlueTooth. It is pricey. But the quality reinforces the cost. And if you purchase a BeBox, there is a risk-free 14 day money back guarantee! Go HERE for more info!
Below is a youtube video I made of my review! I wanted to video how I use the BeBox so that you can see and hear it while in action!
