Well – today I did my weekly Publix run. I know some of you are probably disappointed that I didn’t purchase more items this week! I just didn’t love this week’s deals. I did, however, LOVE the chicken deal and the green beans, zucchini and yellow squash deal. So, I stocked up – emphasis on the word “stocked” – on boneless, skinless chicken breasts and I bought about 5 lbs of veggies that should last us through the week. I only gave the cashier four coupons and that literally killed me. But, I had to remind myself that I was scoring great deals on the meat and veggies! 🙂 What I will do with the chicken is split it up into 1 lb portions (or should I say my husband will) and we will trim the fat, put the chicken in Ziploc freezer baggies and freeze it. That’s the key with stockpiling. Stock up on an item when it is dirt cheap (for Publix $1.99/lb for chicken breasts is dirt cheap) and then buy it next time it is on sale dirt cheap again. So – for all of you who ask me if I eat meat – the answer is yes… that said, I have a freezer now stocked with chicken and red meat that I have managed to purchase when they have been on sale good.
What deals are you taking advantage of this week? I would love to hear if you have found some great deals! Please leave a comment on this post filling me in on your deals as well as how much you spent and saved!

Liza I know you buy lots of zucchini, how do you eat it? raw or cooked?
Liza says
Hi Missys! I usually cook the zucchini.. I either steam it, saute it or roast it.. I usually put a little EVOO or butter on it w/ salt & pepper and/or garlic. YUM.

There is a great recipe on For the Love of Cooking blog. http://fortheloveofcooking-recipes.blogspot.com/2010/11/zucchini-coins-with-marinara-and.html. My kids love it.

Nikki,
As a parmesan, marinara, and panko fan, I’m excited to try the recipe – thanks for the share!

So you get the raw chicken do you cut it up in cubes, or just freeze it whole. What type of recipies do you use.
Liza says
Chrystalm – My husband was actually a gem last night and he cut all the chicken but we (or I should say he) cut it up in thick strips. I normally cook chicken either by grilling it out (I marinade it for a few hours and then grill it) or by making fajitas, chicken parm, etc. We cut the chicken into thick strips before freezing so that we can do whatever we want with it when we thaw it – either using the chicken as is or by cutting into cubes at that point. Does that make sense?
Jennifer says
how long will that chicken last you?
Liza says
Hi Jennifer! The 17 lbs of chicken will last us about 2 months. We are fully stocked on red meat so if I cook four meals a week with the chicken or beef, and if I have leftovers from the meals, we should be taken care of for at least 2 months if not more.
**I should say that when I eat meat, I will often weigh it to make sure I am eating the appropriate amount… Generally for chicken breasts, 7 grams = 1 serving of meat..

I made a second trip to Publix. This time I bought 2 – 4way nasal spray $1.02 Moneymaker, 2- 7 up 2 liters $2.00 money maker when I purchased 2 emerald cashews. I used a bogo raincheck for the cashews and 2 $1.00 mq making the 4 items only $1.80! My only mistake was that my raincheck was for 2 deals not 2 containers of cashews 🙁
2- vanity fair napkins .65 cents each – I found the Noche Buena coupon booklet that had a coupon for these. Also in the booklet was a $1.50 mq for angel soft toilet tissue, making that just $3.99 for 12 rolls.
I stocked up on chicken and bought the swiss miss cocoa and reddi whip topping and paid only .88 cents for both.
Great trip today. wish they were all like that.
