I’m going to be perfectly up front and honest with you that not everyone will agree with this post, and that’s fine. However, I have a soft spot in my heart for animals and puppies and kittens in particular, so you’ll have to indulge me or just skip over this post if you don’t. And that’s okay!
Here’s the thing about puppies – many pet stores that sell puppies carry dogs from cruel and inhumane puppy mills. The mothers are in cramped spaces and spend their whole lives birthing more puppies and not much else. When they can no longer breed or birth puppies, they are often put to sleep.
Obviously this doesn’t happen everywhere, but it happens more often than it should. So, if you have a heart for puppies like I do, would you consider purchasing your next pup from a responsible breeder or better yet, consider adoption from a shelter? You can even refuse to buy pet supplies from stores that sell puppies from puppy mills to make a difference.
If you agree that we should try to treat animals humanely (and trust me, I’m not this big animal rights activist or anything, I just want to try and be responsible with how we treat them), then would you considering signing the pledge sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States? Go HERE to see more about this issue and to sign the pledge.
Okay, service announcement over. 😉

Thank you for writing this post. I really hope someday these stores are out out of business. As you said in your post when the mothers are no longer to produce they are discarded as trash.

Thank your for this post. I am the proud pet parent of an adorable Chihuahua that was used as a breeder dog. She had never been out of her cage, never touched grass, and was in very poor health. I had to have all of the bottom teeth removed because they were in such bad shape, and she and an infection that would not allow her to even eat most foods.
She is adorable, beautiful and now lives the life of cool sniffs in the grass, her fav blankie and tons of love. I proudly sign your petition. Thanks for caring.

Thank you Teri and Cathy. I just saw a news feature on a neglected 8-year old Miniature Pincher last night and it reminded me about this petition so I thought I would post it again. Thank you for making your voice heard! 🙂
