I am totally impressed! My “new” Publix manager is now writing down coupons. He explained to me yesterday when I went in to do the special K and Maalox deal, NO MORE MONEY MAKERS IN MY STORE. So Cynthia will have to share the name of her store with us. I love seeing the posts with the pictures!
Autumn says
That stinks! If there are “no more money makers” then they shouldn’t put items on sale when coupons are out!!
Melody says
So long as they aren’t turning in those manufacturer’s coupons for the full value when they don’t allow you to receive full value, I suppose that is ok. I have often wondered about that, particularly with Walmart which has to be the absolute worst about taking coupons. They regularly argue about 3 cents (e.g., item is $0.97 and coupon is for $1.00) and I always wonder if they are seeking the full amount back from the manufacturer.
Michelle says
They cannot change the amount of the coupon that they are getting reimbursed. They may write a different amount on the coupon, but the processing center won’t change the amount of what is reimbursed. They are not allowed to. No matter what these stores try to make us believe!

Hmmm. I’d be interested to hear from a store manager, Target and Walmart fuss about this stuff in my neighborhood, as to why they won’t give us the full value when they take it from the manufacturer. I’m not going to argue about three cents either, it’s just a little annoyance among all the HUGE deals we regularly get.

I actually talked to a district manager after a store refused to honor a $4 off Wholly Guacamole coupon. He stated that ALL Publix stores (at least in his area) are to allow overages since the store receives full value for the coupon. As long as the coupon is printed as “x$ off” and not “upto x$ off”.

If you don’t mind me asking, what area are you in? That is very good information to have.

North Pinellas, FL

That is fantastic. No “money makers” for us either. I thought we did well last week when we did about $165 and paid $44.91.

Hi guys…it’s me Cynthia who sent Liza the pic. Jeez….I kinda feel like a celebrity 😉
I pulled out my receipt to see how I did so good this past week at Publix (I save all my receipts in case I see a rebate. I won a $100 Publix gift card 2 months ago from a rebate). I got the overage on the scenarios that Liza posted for the Special K and Peter Pan Peanut Butter so I MADE $ on that, and I also used a $5/20 Winn Dixie coupon I got in the mail. EVERYTHING else I purchased I had mfg coupons and some Publix advantage flyer coupons that I combined. That’s how I did so good. It took me an hour to figure it out the night before, but it was worth it!
Fot this trip my hubby was with me and was amazed! Thanks so much Liza….you’ve taught me well 🙂

My husband is friend’s with a Publix manager and he said he LOVES coupons because it makes his store money and he tells his employees this too. Not sure which Publix he is at. I will have to check when hubby is awake.
I had a good experience at Target! I used a coupon with overage and even pointed out to the young male cashier that he would have to adjust. He told me no that they get the amount on the coupon plus some and I should get the overage. He rang it through and I got all my things plus overage without no problem. I guesss it is true, you really need to pay attention to which cashier you go to.

I know that we are talking about Publix, but i went into several Walgreens in my area (Tampa) and spoke to several managers who told me that giving the customer overage is coupon fraud…. his example was “Bayer would not want to pay you to buy hershey’s candy. They are loosing out on money for you to buy another item…. “i told him that he gets reimbursed for the full amount of the coupon and that was coupon fraud! he stated that Walgreens computers are sooo precise that it won’t even take a coupon that is more than the item unless they they mark it down…then when they send the coupons to the manufactures , they have to send their account statements ensuring that they are not getting more than they got from the customers…… What do you guys think about this???

If you read the fine print on the coupons you can learn a lot. Target coupons specifically say “Coupon value may not exceed the value of item purchased” so I think the Target cashiers follow that creed on ALL coupons. Some of the manufacturer coupons state on them ” Invoices proving purchase of sufficient stock to cover coupons presented for redemtion must be shown on request”
I bet the stores where the Extreme coupon shoppers shop have to supply invoices….
And also if you read the coupon most retailers are getting the face value of the coupon plus 8 cents for handling….
I like my publix but have yet to get anyone to understand that I can use the b1g1 free coupons with the b1g1 sale.
I don’t even want the Special K cereal for myself I don’t particularly care for it but my son’s school does food drives all the time and I give them any of my freebies that I don’t use. A shame that my coupons are going to waste.
