You all may not realize it, but I read each and every comment that is posted on AddictedtoSaving.com 🙂 As you should know, this week at Publix, we can score FREE Sprout Organic Baby Food at Publix. (Go HERE to see this week’s Publix sales/coupon matchups) Today, Chrystalm left a comment that left me thinking. She said, “The sprout baby food is great in smoothies. If you like to eat healthy they have a green bean/peas/mint combination that is wonderful in smoothies. Easier on your blenders also. I have a vitamix blender so I just threw in the veggies, added some fruit and taadaa a wonderfull green smoothie. Good organic veggies at a fraction of the price. Gotta love couponing.”
Chrystalm’s comment made me want to do a little research.. I went to Sproutbabyfood.com to find out the nutritional content of this product. Here is the information given for Sweet Peas & Garden Green Beans: “Made with all certified organic ingredients. No artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Ingredients: Organic Peas, Organic Green Beans, Filtered Water, Organic Mint. Allergen Information: Does not contain Milk, Nuts, Egg, Soy, Wheat, Gluten, Fish or Shellfish.” Not bad! No added sugars or ingredients that I can’t pronounce which tells me this is legitimately organic! And, one serving has only 60 calories, 4 grams of dietary fiber (this is important when you are trying to eat healthy) and one/half a serving of protein at 4 grams.
What do you think? Are you as intrigued by the concept of making smoothies out of this food as I am? Below is the scenario to score you FREE Sprout Baby Food at Publix this week!

I use baby food often in smoothies. I also mix it with plain or vanilla yogurt or with cottage cheese. It’s much better for you than the yogurt or cottage cheese w/ the fruit provided b/c it has not sugar.

I am going to get it to donate to a local childrens home

It really bugs me that both Publix and Kroger advertise BOGO sales, but they actually ring up at 50% off. So you can’t match a BOGO coupon. 🙁

Kim – what state do you live in? It sounds like you aren’t in FL where we have “true B1G1 sales”. 🙁 Although, I’m wondering if you live in the land of doubles? Are your coupons doubled?

I love the idea and can’t wait to try it. I’m always looking for ways to sneak in veggies for my twins. I would love to hear recipes for for smoothies, etc using the Sprout baby food if anyone has any. I am cooking-challenged. 🙂
