Photo Show and Tell – Publix 7/13/12

Have you gone grocery shopping this week yet? I’m a bit disappointed with the current sales at Publix. Hence the fact that I didn’t purchase a lot this week. Yesterday we picked up 40 pounds of lean ground beef and 40 pounds of boneless, skinless, chicken breasts from the Zaycon Foods. So we are stocked on fresh meat. Honestly, today I wouldn’t have gone shopping if I hadn’t skipped out last week when we were out of town in St Louis. Today’s haul wasn’t a big one. We needed milk and tomatoes. And we can always use more coffee for pantry. I was excited about the Smithfield and really excited about the Smartfood Selects. (I love Smartfood popcorn and haven’t tried Selects yet, have you?)

Reader Success Photo Show and Tells

As many of you know, earlier this week I posted asking for all of you to send me your photo show and tells for this week. I was surprised by how many of you responded via either email or Addicted to Saving’s Facebook page! Thank you all so much! To fill you in on my life, we are out of town right now so I don’t have a Publix nearby to go grocery shopping at. Part of me is disappointed that I can’t go grocery shopping but the other part of me is okay with it since this week’s sales ad is a bit slow. Although, now that I’ve reviewed all of your photos, I’m seeing there are actually some great deals to take advantage of this week!

Cindy S did awesome! She spent $8.56 on everything pictured above and saved $71.30!

Jess G. went shopping to Publix and Winn Dixie and ended up spending $35.55 and saving $66.72!

Natalie D. went to CVS and after using coupons and ECBs, she spent $6.99 cash and received a $10.00 Shell gas card! And, Natalie purchased two bottles of Pantene that are not pictured!

Dana R went to Publix and spent $2.23 and saved $37.21! Love it!

And Candy S. went to Publix and they paid her $0.75 to take all of this out of the store. Can you say, “Wow!” Look at her receipt below:

Whew! What a week! So this week we’ve had a ton on our plate! We decided to paint our guest bedroom which will be our nursery in August. I know I’ve said that I didn’t want to get too emotionally involved in decorating until our adoption is final but as we are getting closer and closer to August, we have decided that there are certain things that we need to do prior to baby girl’s arrival. I’m fortunate because hubby used to own a painting company. He painted the nursery (pictured below) in just a few hours. Besides painting the nursery, we’ve torn our flooring up in the majority of our house so hubby and one of his best friends can put down new flooring. All of our furniture is piled on top of each other and basically my house could very easily pass for a pig pen. Today and tomorrow (Saturday, 6/30), we are holding our adoption garage sale fundraiser. We are holding this garage sale at the house of friends who live 40 minutes away so many hours were spent bringing truckloads of stuff to their house in preparation of the sale. Then, this morning, we were up at 4 am loading up yet another truckload and then heading over to get ready for our sale. Today we were able to raise $829.00! Such a blessing. Oh – and this week, my blog crashed twice. SO – with everything on our plate (including adoption ups and downs), we are whipped. Physically and emotionally.

Despite being tired, I was able to sneak away last night to Publix. When I typed up this week’s Publix weekly ad and coupon matchups, I wasn’t that overwhelmed with the sales. But in actuality, if you have the right coupons, you can get some great deals! I had a $25.00 Publix Gift card that was given to me by a company I work with which made my shopping trip fun as I only came out of pocket $1.64 for everything :)!

How did you do at Publix this week? I was hoping for greater savings today but we weren’t able to save as much as I wanted. Hopefully you all saved more money than me this week! 🙂 I am so excited that Zaycon Foods is coming back to my area so I can stock up on $1.59/lb Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts and $3.29/lb Lean Ground Beef. (Go HERE to read more about Zaycon Foods.) My major scores today at Publix were free Yakisoba Noodles (to donate) and squash for $0.99/lb!

Another week has come and gone and I’m still not sure where the time has gone! I’m finding that all of my energy is going into working on Addicted to Saving and planning and preparing for our adoptions. So by the end of the week, I’m spent! Today hubby and I waited until the last minute to go on our almost weekly Publix shopping trip/date. And, we were too late. I could tell that many of you had already been to Publix because some of the deals I wanted to take advantage of were sold out! 😉 So, hubby dropped me off at home and then graciously went to a different Publix to finish up our shopping trip. Photo Show and Tell – Publix 6/8/12

Have you gone grocery shopping yet this week? I was pretty pleased with my trip today. Last week we had friends over and we sent them home with at least 60% of the food in our large freezer in the garage so it was fun to go shopping this week and fill some of all of that empty space again! It was interesting to look in my grocery cart today because almost everything was refrigerated or frozen! I’ve talked about my stockpile in the past and we still have tons of frozen chicken to live off of but our ground beef stockpile is running low. So I am excited that Zaycon Foods is bringing ground beef to their next event so I can stock up on it. Many of you ask me each week how long it takes to get a stockpile sufficient enough to live off of. I think on average, it should take you about 3 – 4 months to get a stockpile large enough that you can cook off of it every day/night. Once your stockpile becomes large, will have the luxury of only buying items when they are dirt cheap as well as the staples you need each week like fresh dairy and produce!

NOTE – you will see pictured on my kitchen table, two boxes of Nestle Drumsticks Ice Cream Cones. (they are pictured behind the Smart Ones) DO NOT get those two boxes. They are not included in the sale. For the first time in over a year, I will be returning groceries that I purchased. I can’t live with keeping them knowing each box cost 6.99 🙁

This week’s Publix Weekly Ad is not that exciting for me. After all of the fun I had last week with Publix’s sales, I guess it is okay that this week was a bit slow? I found that this week, there was not a lot of store coupons for me to use on the deals. So, the lack of stacking definitely affected my savings ratio!

We’ve had a busy week this week (when is it not busy though, right?). Lots of adoption progess and if everything goes according to plan, we should be bringing home a newborn baby girl in less than two and a half months. This is the biggest emotional roller coaster I’ve ever been on. We are submerged in big time budgeting, fundraising, filling out grant applications, planning a huge garage sale as well as planning a fundraising event. Life is good though.
