Photo Show and Tell – Publix 11/4/11

This was not one of the best sales weeks at Publix but I was able to do a decent job. I really needed to get a bit of produce so that brought my out of pocket costs up. And, I bought a package of fresh boneless, skinless chicken breasts which as many of you know, I don’t need (since I have 65+ pounds frozen away in my freezer). But, I had a $1.00 off Publix chicken coupon that an awesome reader sent me. And, the chicken had a $1.00 off Shake ‘n Bake & Chicken peelie on it so I was able to get a box of Shake ‘n Bake as well. My favorite deal of the night was by far the Swanson Chicken Broth. I use this on a weekly basis in soups, pastas and more so I’m excited to have been able to buy 8 boxes. I just wish I had more coupons to buy more! 🙂 I did mistakingly buy the wrong Vlasic pickles that were not included in the sale.. Such a bummer. And, no, I probably will not return them. I did, however, end up spending more out of pocket than I should have since I screwed up.

I had a great Publix shopping trip yesterday! My schedule today is crazy so I wanted to get my shopping out of the way today. It was a great trip. I had numerous free coupons I had received in the mail that were expiring 10/31 so I used many of them. I also took full advantage of the Hefty One Zip deal. $0.70 per box of Hefty One Zip freezer bags is an awesome price! I can’t say that this week’s sales are outstanding but it was an awesome stockpile week for Hefty Bags and for Caribou Coffee (especially if you have the $2/1 coupon). And, a special thanks to my Orlando friend who sent me a $2/1 Caribou coffee coupon to use this week 😉 I also was able to score numerous FREE Oral-B toothbrushes! Please note that I used four $2/1 coupons as well as two $1/1 Publix and two $1/1 manufacturer coupons. If you use the $2/1 coupons listed below, note that they limit, “four coupons per transaction”.

Sorry this is late everyone! I have received many emails from you all asking where my weekly Photo Show and Tell is! I actually did my shopping yesterday (Friday) but when I started working on this post, a family emergency took me from my computer. But I am back this morning and getting this post up although I didn’t find this week’s sales to be that spectacular. I did get four big bags of candy which when I add it to the two bags I bought last week, I’m thinking I am probably almost ready for trick-or-treaters. Our street typically gets slammed with trick-or-treaters so I have to get a ton of candy to keep up with the kiddos! (And, having a little left over isn’t necessarily a bad thing is it? ;)) I did take advantage of the amazing Digiorno Cheese deal. I was able to get six containers of Parmesan cheese for $1.20. That was an amazing deal. The other deals I took advantage of were just so/so. I had a $5/$30 Winn Dixie and a $5/$30 Publix coupon so I wanted to make sure I bought $60.00 worth of items (before using coupons) to take advantage of both coupons.

Well, as you all know, this week’s Publix ad is a bit sparse with deals. I am really disappointed by it. I probably would have skipped shopping entirely but I know many of you are used to reading my Photo Show and Tells so I forced myself to go. And then I spent more than I would have wanted to on what seemed like not many groceries. I did buy some necessities such as eggs, milk and bread. And I thought I was taking advantage of the Flatout Wraps deal (we love Flatout Wraps) UNTIL I realized that I totally bought the wrong kind! Please do not make the same mistake I did. If you look at my wraps in the picture above, note that that kind IS NOT on sale. UGH. Such a bummer. No wonder I spent a little more out of pocket than I expected.

I had a great day at Publix today! I shopped at a different Publix today so I was a bit uneasy as to how they are accepting coupons. But, they were great. I had a couple of questions couponwise and they answered all of them. The Publix I shopped at today accepts Target and Winn Dixie coupons so I was able to maximize a lot of the coupons and sales by using both a manufacturer coupon along with either a Publix store or a Target store coupon. As a reminder, you should always find out what stores your Publix accepts as competitors. I had a great day though! Was able to get a bit of produce (we are going to be away for a couple of days traveling for my upcoming Addicted to Saving 101 class so I didn’t need much/anything for this weekend) and I started stocking up on canned vegetables and condensed soup. *Tip* think ahead to the upcoming holidays. If you make casseroles over the holidays, buy the ingredients when they are on sale and you have a coupon to match with it. That way you don’t have to pay full price!

I have two disclaimers to make (what else is new? ;)). First of all, I bought four Air Wick Ribbon Scents Candle. I wasn’t sure if this type of candle is covered under the Publix store coupon so I asked customer service and they allowed it. That said, your store may treat this differently so ask before purchasing. And secondly, I bought four Covergirl Blush and used two $8/2 Covergirl Face Products coupon. Some stores may give you a problem on this. However, if you go to Covergirl’s website, you will see that under their Face Products category, blush is included. I am telling you this so that if your store gives you a hard time, you can kindly (yes, kindly) tell them (or print out and show them) that blush is included under Face Products on their website.

If you are thinking that I bought a lot today at Publix, you are 100% correct! I had quite the haul today! I wasn’t planning on buying quite this much – or should I say that as I printed my grocery list, I wasn’t picturing quite as much stuff as I ended up with! I got a ton of food. And, I spent a bit more than I probably would have liked. But, I had the $10.00 gift card I received a couple weeks ago so I knew that would help a little. And, we are going to have four house guests staying with us for a few weeks this month and I am desperately trying to make sure I have lots of food for them. I’ve told them that I expect them to eat all of my food and clean out my stockpile for me. 😉 We’ll see if that happens!

A few notes regarding my purchases.. First, the Eight O Clock coffee is a great deal – I would have bought even more (remember we go through coffee like it is water) but their coupons were not printing out for me. I received an email from them yesterday that they are having problems with their coupons so once their site is up and running again, I will buy even more. The second note for you is that you may be able to tell I bought 6 jars of Ragu Pizza Sauce. I may go back for more. There are no coupons for the sauce but as I told you in this week’s Publix weekly ad, it is on sale BOGO. It is very seldom on sale BOGO so I stocked up – especially since the expiration date is 2013. AND – thanks to many of you – I had my mom pick me up a box of Sam’s Club pizza dough!! Oh my gosh – what an amazing deal! So, I have plenty of dough just asking to be made! Lastly, my third note for you is that I bought 6 boxes of Chicken Hamburger Helper (or whatever the chicken mixes are called). I’m not sure if I will even like it, but as I said above, I will have a housefull soon. AND, I have at least 80 pounds of chicken that needs to be cooked. So, I figure that in a pinch, I’ll try the Chicken Helper. Have you guys tried it? Do you like it? I think that is it for my side notes! What a slow week at Publix! I always try to go grocery shopping each week because I know many of you like to see the deals I’m buying. But truthfully, if I wasn’t blogging, I would have taken this week off besides for the $0.50 Optic White toothpaste and the Van’s Waffles. 🙂 Fingers crossed next week is a better week!

Well, you can see from my picture above that I had an overflowing grocery cart today during my Publix shopping trip. Since we spent less than $3.00 on $67.00 worth of groceries last week (go HERE to see last week’s Photo Show and Tell), I gave myself a little leeway to spend a bit more than I normally like. And, when I saw this huge rack of Spareribs priced at $1.99/lb, I had to get them – even though I knew that would increase my out of pocket spending. But, I have an amazing barbecue spare ribs crock pot recipe that I haven’t made in ages so I forsee a crock pot meal occurring early next week in my household. (A huge plea goes out to my husband, who I know is reading this, to cut the ribs for me :))

I also stumbled upon bags of California Sun Dried Tomatoes on sale for $1.00 each! This is a great price – even without a coupon! Oh – and I did encounter a small problem using the Free Oikos Greek Yogurt coupons from Parade Magazine. The coupons state Free Dannon Oikos Yogurt but my Publix had Stonyfield Oikos Yogurt. And while the Stonyfield Oikos yogurt looks 100% like the pictured “free coupon” and while the fine print mentions both Dannon and Stonyfield, I wasn’t able to use the coupon. This wasn’t a big deal to me but I wanted to give all of you a head’s up on this. (The coupon expires 9/4/11.)
