If I had to sum up my Publix shopping trip today, it would be HELLO CHEESE! I’m armed and ready to make at least two lasagnas and at least one dish of stuffed shells. YUM. Publix has some great sales today and I was so excited to get mozzarella cheese, ricotta and to try out the new Kraft Mozzarella w/ Philly Shredded cheese. I spent a bit more than I desired and expected but I am pleased with 80.6% savings! I also giggled to myself as I put the two bottles of French’s mustard in my shopping cart because I was picturing myself not buying one bottle but 150 like the lady on Extreme Couponing. heehee. I also was able to do the Right Guard deodorant and body wash deal which made me extremely happy.

Hi Everyone! It’s Liza’s friend, Kelly. As you probably read last week, Liza is away and I’ve been filling in for her while she’s been gone. I have to tell you, this is a BIG job and I have a whole new respect for what she does. She really makes my shopping trip so much easier to plan, saving me a ton of time each week and a ton of money! I happen to be a big “copycat” every week and am always excited to see what Liza will do each week at Publix with her coupons. I usually purchase most of the items from her Show and Tell each week. Whew! This week flew by! Made a very quick Publix run this morning. I had some coupons expiring 3/31 that I wanted to use and there were a couple sales items I wanted to stock up on! I bought four of the Philadelphia Cooking Cremes. I haven’t tried them yet so will be interested to see how I like them! Have you tried them yet? I also bought another box of Mrs. T’s Pierogies because they are one of my new favorite quick fix meals! (P.S. I had such fun chatting with so many of you on Addicted to Saving’s Facebook page about how you all prepare your Pierogies! The Italian in me has no concept of Pierogies so I learned a lot from all of you! :)) I definitely wasn’t on my “A Game” today though because as I was going through my envelope of coupons while shopping in Publix, I realized the $0.75 off Colgate coupons and the $0.55 off Lay’s coupons were sitting at home on my piano bench right where I left them after cutting them! So, I wasn’t able to stock up on Colgate and get a couple of bags of chips like I planned. I know a lot of you purchase similar items to me so make sure you take advantage of the Colgate deal – even if you don’t use Colgate toothpaste you will only spend $0.25 per tube of toothpaste and this would be awesome to donate or give away. Also – there is a great deal on fresh green beans, zucchini and yellow squash which I would highly recommend you take advantage of!

I also wanted to post a raincheck lesson.. If you use a rain check, make sure your cashier does not start ringing through the items you are purchasing with your rain check until you give him/her your rain check. My cashier started ringing the dog treats through and then had to cancel those treats before ringing them up a different way using the rain check. And then when I got into my car, I realized I was overcharged because two of the bags were not cancelled.. Long story short, I had to go to customer service to get reimbursed. Not a big deal but it definitely made my quick shopping trip not as quick as it could have been!

I also wanted to give all of you a head’s up that my husband and I will be away for a couple of weeks. Don’t worry – nothing is wrong – everyone is healthy and well. We will actually get to see his sister who is currently a missionary/teacher in Africa. She is leaving Africa for a short time so we are excited to get caught up with her a bit. So, here is what will happen while I am away. My friend Kelly will be helping me out. She will post all of the weekly coupon matchups that you have come to expect. You shouldn’t see any differences in the ads and matchups. She will also post a few great deals each day. The only difference is that she will not be working 10+ hours a day like I do. 🙂 If you find deals, coupons, coupon booklets, etc etc that you think should be posted, please email them to addictedtosaving at hotmail.com (all one word – use the @ sign instead of how I typed out “at”). You never know, Kelly may post a few of your deals! I will be back April 6th and I will start my time back with a couple of great giveaways.. want a sneak peek.. I’m thinking about giving away some high value fruit coupons, a great nutrition book written by one of “The Doctors” and then a surprise courtesy of me. 🙂 Oh – one more thing – Kelly will post her own Photo Show and Tell for the next couple of weeks so you will get the privilege of seeing a different couponing perspective! I personally can’t wait to see what she buys! 🙂

I am definitely loving Publix’s Italian Days sales! Today is the first time I bought Progresso Soup with their sale. Last week I focused on Green Giant and Progresso Beans.. Well, today I diverted my attention to the soup and Hunt’s tomatoes. Remember that if you are going to do the Italian Days scenarios you need to find out how your Publix handles the Italian Days coupons. Each store has different policies so find out your store’s policy first before you start shopping.

There are a lot of great coupon scenarios for this week’s Publix sales. For example, buy Doritos – save money on Pepsi, buy Pepperidge Farm Bread – save money on produce, buy Uncle Ben’s Brown Rice – save money on beef. LOVE IT. The Pepperidge Farm deal was my favorite – if you are going to buy produce then buy the bread and use the coupon to save $1.50 off produce!

I know so many of you asked me to go shopping yesterday because you wanted to see my Photo Show and Tell yesterday and while I didn’t shop yesterday, I did shop first thing this morning. I started off my shopping trip asking customer service how they would accept the Publix Italian Days coupons. I highly recommend you do the same thing. DO NOT go by my shopping trip and coupon usage since every Publix has a different policy. I actually think my store is too lenient with the coupons and I told my manager that. But, I also told him I would take advantage of the leniency. 😉 I did have a great trip today. As you can see, I really took advantage of the Progresso Canned Beans! They are a staple in my house. I make black bean soup, white chicken chili, regular chili, plain black beans, black beans on salads, and many more recipes with beans. I may even type up an awesome recipe for black bean soup for you all – it goes perfectly with this week’s sales. I bought a lot of Green Giant veggies and most of them are for my favorite 18 month old friend. She likes corn and green beans so she is getting most of my canned veggies. I will keep a few cans of corn to use in Shepard’s Pie. YUM. I also took advantage of the awesome Sargento Cheese deal! I wasn’t able to score the cheese for free since my inserts didn’t have the $1.00/2 manufacturer coupon, but I was able to score them for $0.25 each which is perfectly fine by me! Oh – and the last deal I have to point out is the California Sun Dried Tomatoes and Pesto. It is hard to tell in the picture but I bought four jars of them. They are pricey and there are no coupons for them, but they are on sale BOGO which they never are. So, if that is something you would use, even without a coupon I am telling you it is okay to buy a few jars of them. 🙂

Photo Show and Tell – Publix 2/11/11

Okay so today’s grocery shopping was a HUGE success because of an email I received from JB. JB emailed me to let me know that there are $1.00/1 Emerald Nuts coupons that would go with this week’s sale (my matchups showed $1.50/2). So, I was able to score great deals on the Emerald Nuts which made me really happy! And, my favorite purchase was the Steamfresh and Bird’s Eye vegetables. We eat a lot of vegetables in this house and one of the ways I try to save money on produce is to buy frozen veggies (hence my purchasing 9 bags today ;)). So, for all of you out there that eat healthy and email me telling me there are never good deals on healthy foods, this is perhaps a good deal for you! If you purchase the Steamfresh or Bird’s Eye veggies without (key word is without) sauce then you are buying frozen veggies with only one ingredient – the veggies! There are no preservatives, no fattening sauces, nothing besides veggies (check out the list of ingredients and you will see this). 🙂

And – for all of you who read last week’s Photo Show and Tell, I did end up getting a phone call from my store’s head manager and he and I had an awesome conversation. Publix works really hard to provide excellent customer service and I saw this as I spent a good 20 minutes talking to him. It seems he and I are on the same page, so I was extremely pleased. And, supposedly Publix is in the works to put together some sort of written coupon policy which in my opinion would be awesome. If all of the stores could be on the same page and have the same policies there would be so much less confusion over the “gray” couponing areas. And, as you all have probably realized, Publix is starting to tighten their couponing policies – not because they want to be strict but because of the people that abuse the policies. I have heard some horrible examples of people photocopying coupons, using fake coupons, returning items they paid next to nothing on to get the cash, etc etc. It is the “bad seeds” out there that ruin it for all of us. SO – remember that Publix has awesome sales. They give us awesome store coupons. There is no reason that we should take advantage of them. So this has been a busy week for me! Getting out of the house today and doing my weekly Publix shopping trip was a nice break from working on the website. 🙂 I did actually have a coupon issue today at my Publix. To the point where I talked to the manager who said that while they would put the coupons through, they shouldn’t… The crazy thing is that I have done this type of transaction multiple times. When I was leaving Publix today I talked to one of the customer service staff that I always talk to and she said it was a “gray area” of couponing.. Of course I know all about gray areas – especially since Publix doesn’t have a written coupon policy.. All of you email me about “gray” areas of Publix policies on a daily, sometimes hourly basis. But, I always want to err on the side of caution. I don’t want to break rules or even remotely get close to breaking the rules. So I am not going to include the specific coupons (yes there were two gray area issues) in question in this scenarios below. I have put a call into corporate because I want to see what they say about it. Corporate has already called me back and I am now waiting to hear from the District Manager. I know that other reputable websites (emphasis on reputable) say that this specific type of transaction is acceptable. So, either my store is “stricter” than others or my store is misinformed. Either way, I am starting to reevaluate how I run Addicted to Saving. Because here is the thing, my Publix allows certain things that other Publix locations do not allow. And vice versa. And, I don’t want any of you to think that because I am able to do certain things at my Publix it should be allowed everywhere…. SO – all this to say – going forward, I will continue to post my Photo Show and Tell and tell you what I spent and saved and what coupons I used. But, for the matchups, I am going to be a bit less specific for the “gray area” deals. I don’t want you to confuse a specific deal with being 100% acceptable when in actuality it is only acceptable at certain stores with certain managers.. Does that make sense? Did I lose all of you? 🙂

Back to my deals though.. I was so excited to score Athenos Greek Yogurt for $0.20 each and Polly-O Mozzarella for $0.69. AND – I did awesome on the U by Kotex and Kleenex! The best part is I purchased $35.00 worth of Kimberly-Clark or Mead Johnson products per the Start Your Year Out with Big Savings booklet so I will get a $10.00 Publix Gift Card in the mail! (After I send in the Publix Gift Card rebate form).
