Every couple of days I receive emails from some of you who are not on Facebook. You are typically frustrated because you do not have Facebook accounts and you feel like you are missing out on a lot of coupons and deals because of this. I hear you. However, you have to realize that as online marketing has become more and more prevalant, more and more companies are using Facebook to advertise their deals, new products, free samples and coupons because there is a HUGE audience on Facebook. That said, for those of you without accounts, you have every right to feel left out.
So, what can you do about this? If you are not on Facebook but want to take advantage of the coupon and freebie deals, I recommend you create a Facebook page specifically for couponing. You don’t have to worry about friend requests or about leaving status updates. But you can at least create a page that you can use when there is a freebie or hot coupon you want to print out. If you do this, I recommend you use your email address created specifically for couponing so that you don’t have to worry about receiving friend requests.
Many of you have also asked about Facebook and privacy. I get frustrated when I go to sign up for a freebie on Facebook and I have to allow the company to have access to my Facebook friends in order to submit my freebie request. There are often no ways to circumvent this. However, if you do have a Facebook page created specifically for couponing & freebies, when you allow the access, there won’t be any shared privacy information to worry about.
I am currently using my own Facebook page but I’m thinking it is time to start a new page. My question to all of you– do you have one page or more than one for couponing & freebies? Do you have any tips for my readers who are concerned about privacy issues?

very well said.
there is nothing you can do to help them.. you have to have a fb page simple as that.. even if you set it up as joe cool and an email address just for it. (not your main email).. its still a facebook for you to get the daily freebies/coupons and super fast updates.. a lot of times the freebies are announced last minute not leaving a blogger time to post on the blog but simply update their facebook status. Facebook is a must.
as to privacy issues.. what are they gonna get that isnt already out there.. by simply posting your “home” phone number online some where anyone can get your name and address. if your worried about privacy that much get off the internet people are always watching even your internet service provider.

I have 2 accounts. One for coupons and one for personal use. There are very few things more annoying than logging on and seeing “Jane Doe likes Company X and 24 other pages”. There’s also no way I’d allow any company to access my personal profile.

As someone who buys groceries for several family members and friends, I actively use five different “dummy” facebook accounts (connected to my couponing-related email addresses), one for each of the five separate computers I have set up in my workshop. During the facebook account setup process, there is an option to skip any personal information besides name and email address, so those accounts are devoid of any real info. A dummy facebook account (along with a dummy email) is a great way to get in on all the great facebook coupons and offers without revealing any personal information – and without announcing to your friends that you ‘Like’ Lamisil.

I have two accounts. One personal and one for coupons, samples, etc. I also have a second email account just for coupons, etc.

I recently researched this topic and it is against the Facebook User Agreement to have more than one account. Having said that, I seriously doubt it’s enforced as I know many people have “blank” FB pages.

I also have a fb account that I use just for freebies/coupons. I use a g-mail acct that I set up just for it and made up a name: “Coupon Dawn”. This keeps my regular fb account free of all the advertisements and I’m still able to get the deals. Also, if it’s a really good deal I’ll sign up on both accounts to be able to get two of the deal (sent to a second address). Today was the first time I encountered a problem using my coupon fb account. I think it was the Hartz pet pack – you had to send it to a friend from your fb friend list and I don’t have any friends on that account. Otherwise it’s been great.

I am not a facebook user AT ALL! Its not my thing but when I learned about what I was missing out on I decided to make an account that would allow me to have access to the coupon deals. I suggest people who feel they are missing out do the same. I dont use the account for anything else but couponing.

I only have one FB page. As a matter of fact, I used to have several email addresses, but in reality, I only use one. I just set up folders and filters for the stuff that means something to me and needs my attention. Everything else just goes to my inbox. Actually, my inbox is really my trash… This is what works the best for me. I barely have enough time to do the things I do on a daily basis, the last thing I need is to make checking my email accounts an hour long project.

I have been seriously considering a separate fb account for freebies and coupons.

Great comment, Frank! Very helpful.

But also.. how do you all feel about having to type in all of your personal information to get the freebie? First/Last names, mailing address, phone number, etc… I’d imagine that your freebies are mailed to you (have never done this before), but always putting your contact details out there? Hm. Does rest assurance exist for this? If so, please pass it on!
